  Our son attends Willow Bend high school in Plano. The school utilizes a non-traditional format and a compressed daily schedule, but the curriculum is very good and the expectations are high for all students. The students can proceed through their work faster if they are advanced, but there is a minimum standard of work to complete each month so everyone must stay on task and keep focused. If a student needs extra help the teachers are wonderful and will go the extra mile to help them succeed. This is a very nurturing environment with wonderful administration, staff and teachers. They also have lots of opportunity for student involvement. My son is involved in National Honor Society, school Newspaper, community service, and also takes dual-credit courses at Collin College. He ALSO has time to pursue arts, sports, extra SAT prep, etc outside of school because the daily school schedule is very compressed. He has made lots of friends with other students (a very diverse student body) and he really likes his teachers and respects the administration. There is a strong sense of community, caring, and inclusiveness at Willow Bend that I felt was lacking at public school. One last thing I like: the school often brings in outside speakers that talk to the students about all kinds of things like: various careers, college options, how to stay motivated, how to handle life challenges, etc. Bottom line: we love this school. It is a perfect fit for our child and our family.
